Amelia Ilangaratne studied BA Art and Design at the University of Leeds, graduating in 2013 with First Class Honours.
Working through pen, ink and watercolour, Amelia creates highly delicate and intricate illustrations. Drawing inspiration from the natural world, her artwork focuses particular attention on the animal kingdom. Other influences range from the playful illustrations of children’s literature, to ancient medieval bestiaries and traditional Japanese and Chinese art.
The use of pen, ink wash and watercolour encourages a vast array of mark-making, ranging from detailed fine line to block colour and shading. More recent experiments with paper collage and digital media during her time at Silian Arts have enabled Amelia to further develop and broaden the style of her illustrations, whilst retaining the original character of the her artistic style.
